Studio Program

Goals

Along with learning the skills necessary to play the piano and make music, I hope to teach students the value of self-discipline, the ability to resolve problems, and how to be responsible in achieving an established goal. The study of music offers opportunities to develop self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment, in addition to gaining the joy of musical expression.

Practice

Regular practice is an imperative if a student is to progress at a steady rate. Parents need to help students organize their schedules to include daily practice in a quiet environment on a piano that's in good condition and in-tune. A specific time of day should be set aside for practice. Beginning through elementary level students need a minimum of 30 minutes daily, while intermediate and high school students require 45 to 60 minutes.

Program

Three (3) weekly private lessons and one group lesson are offered each month. Lesson assignments address the individual needs and interests of the student. Each student is provided with a 3-ring binder with assignment sheets so that weekly expectations can be clearly noted. Group lessons introduce overall technical skills, theory concepts, music history and creative projects which are followed-up in the private lesson. Additionally students perform their repertoire for their peers.

Each student is expected to perform in three (3) recitals during the year. Other performance opportunities occur through Washington State Music Teachers Association, community programs, church and/or school activities. Students are strongly encouraged to perform often as an integral part of my studio program.
